Philosophy of the Center Children live minute by minute; and everything experienced during those busy detailed days reflects what they are, what has been, and what they will become. At Children's Discovery Center, we strive to provide a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of the young child. An important component of our program is to provide an enriched environment, which encourages learning through exploration and play. A child's play is a primary indicator of his mental growth. Children need years of play with real objects before they understand the meaning of symbols, such as letters or numbers. Learning takes place as young children touch, manipulate, and experiment with things and as they interact with others. Through planning developmentally-appropriate activities, our staff hopes to give your child opportunities to actively explore, create, and develop at his individual rate.

Discipline. True discipline is aimed at building up within the child what we call "conscience". Self -discipline will one day help him in doing what he should and in behaving in an acceptable manner, even when there is nobody to tell him what to do or to notice if he behaves wrongly. Learning self-discipline, responsibility and cooperation takes a long time and requires lots of practice. If the child's behavior is not manageable to Center staff you will be asked to remove your child from the program.
Parent Involvement. We encourange parents to be involved in our program whenever possible. Mutual support and good communication are essential to provide the best environment for your child. Please feel free to schedule a conference if concerns or questions about your child arise. During the year, we will have several parents' activities so your child may proudly display his work.
